Since post-World War II, the Food and Drug Administration has denied that cannabis holds any medical value, by classifying marijuana as a Schedule I drug. In this way, they assist the Federal Government in their claim of illegality, and as such, it is made enforceable. Even when confronted with conflicting data, including studies showing both the palliative and curative properties of smoked marijuana, the Feds continue to deny medical marijuana, and proactively seek out and prosecute both medical marijuana patients and their caregivers. In 2005, the US Supreme Court reaffirmed the Feds right to arrest medical marijuana patients, their caregivers and their providers.
